Please ensure that you have your creative piece for “Homeless Bird” ready and that you have made a sign with your team name on it.

Readers Cup Film Festival
Competition for Readers in Years 7-8 and 9-10
The Readers Cup Film Festival encourages students to participate in school teams, sharpening their reading skills and developing their digital publishing capabilities.  The competition focusses on the creation of a digital artefact, video, mash-up, animation – you name it – reinterpreting a story with flair and originality. The guidelines for the competition, and the Team Registration form are available on http://readerscup.globalteacher.org.au

On Friday 26th November 2010 students work will be showcased at the Readers Cup Film Festival.  This end of year event will encourage audience participation with quizzes, competitions and great prizes to be won.

Readers’ Cup books are on PRC list

That’s right, all four of the books selected for the Readers’ Cup are on the Premiers’ Reading Challenge list, so you can read them once but use them twice!


Guidlines for the Readers’ Cup competition

June 4, 2008
  • Teams need to consist of 2-4 students. Teams may choose their own name.
  •  4 books are to be read in each competition.
  •  Individuals need not read all the books to participate.
  •  You must not use notes or the books during the quiz.
  •  Teams compete against each other in the final.   
  • Points are scored by answering a number of questions on each book as well as a presentation focussing on Holes.
  •  Types of presentations can be chosen from this list:

                  Develop a game show

                  Design and explain a poster

                  Compose a song or rap

                  Make and explain mural

                  Create an A – Z of the novel

                  “This is your life”

                  Character interviews

                  News presentation

  • 1 point will be allocated for each of the following:

                  Involvement by each group member

                  A description of the processes used to develop your activity

                  Knowledge of the story and underlying themes

                  Effort and organisation

                  Creativity

                  Quality

                  Success in engaging the audience with the presentation

                  Completion within 5 minutes. 

  • The winning team will receive a prize.
  • Other teams will receive certificates of participation.

What is the Readers’ Cup?

The Readers’ Cup competition rewards students who do well at reading. Just as good sports people receive rewards, then good readers receive prizes and certificates for competing at reading.

 The Readers’ Cup Competition consists of:

  •  Teams of two to four students reading four individual books that have been selected by the teacher librarian.
  • These teams compete against each other during one lunchtime.
  • Each team provides written answers to four questions about each book, and perform their interpretation of one book title during the ‘creative round’.
  • Each student participating receives a certificate while the winners receive a books or book vouchers.
  • We will need judges, so please consider becoming involved as either participant or judge.
  • Please get a team together and sign up in the library or by adding a comment below with your team details.
